IRS Expands Service Hours: San Diego Tax Help Available on Saturdays

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced extended Saturday hours at eight Taxpayer Assistance Centers throughout California, including one in San Diego, to provide in-person assistance during the peak tax season.

These additional hours reflect the IRS’s commitment to improving taxpayer service by accommodating individuals who may find it challenging to seek assistance during regular weekday hours due to work or other obligations.

On Saturday, March 16, taxpayers can receive assistance without scheduling an appointment from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the following locations:

  • 212 Coffee Road Ste. 200, Bakersfield, CA 93309
  • 2525 Capitol St., Suite 101, Fresno, CA 93721
  • 300 N. Los Angeles St., Los Angeles, CA 90012
  • 1301 Clay St., Oakland, CA 94612
  • 4330 Watt Ave., Sacramento, CA 95821
  • 880 Front St., Suite 1247, San Diego, CA 92101
  • 450 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco, CA 94102
  • 55 S. Market St., Ste. 100, San Jose, CA 95113

Additionally, the San Diego location will offer Saturday assistance again on April 13, during the same hours.

Understanding Taxpayer Assistance Centers

Taxpayers visiting these centres can access various services, including assistance with online accounts, renewal of Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITINs), payment inquiries, refund assistance, and obtaining transcripts and forms. It’s important to note that tax return preparation services are not available on Saturdays, and cash payments cannot be accepted.

Typically, Taxpayer Assistance Centers operate Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., requiring appointments that can be made by calling 844-545-5640.

Preparing for an IRS Office Visit

Before visiting an IRS office, taxpayers should ensure they have the necessary documents and information on hand:

  • Valid government-issued photo identification
  • Social Security Number or ITIN
  • Relevant IRS letters, notices, or other documents
  • If identity verification services are required, two forms of identification and a copy of the tax return for the applicable year (if filed) may be requested
  • Additionally, individuals may need to provide a current mailing address and proof of financial account information.

For additional information, taxpayers can visit the IRS website or contact their local Taxpayer Assistance Center.
