Zelensky asks the UN to deprive Russia of its vote in the Security Council

the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, asked today deprive to Russia the right to vote at United Nations Security Council (UN), where he is a permanent member.

In a phone call with the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterresthe Ukrainian president asked him to “deprive the aggressor country of the right to vote in the UN Security Council, describe Russia’s actions and statements against the Ukrainian people as genocide and help with the delivery of the bodies of Russian soldiers”, Zelensky stated.

Guterres assured Zelensky today that the UN will increase the humanitarian aid to his country, which since last Thursday has been attacked and invaded by Russia.

Russia used its veto power this Friday to stop a resolution at the UN against its invasion of Ukraine, a text that had the support of a clear majority of the Security Council, but before which three countries abstained, including China.

The document, which from the first moment was doomed to failure since Moscow could block it, had been promoted by the United States to condemn the Russian military intervention and demand the withdrawal of its troops from Ukraine.
