Jose Vasquez, of Charlottesville, told city officials Virginia Lottery that he felt lucky after an instant scratch-off ticket won him a $100 prize, so he invested some of his winnings in another lottery ticket that won him a $200 prize.

Vasquez said this decided him to test his lucky streak and bought another lottery ticket, which earned him $400 more and used a portion of those winnings to purchase a Money Maker Crossword 5X Scratch-Off ticket at the Cherry Avenue Market Store in Charlottesville.

With the fourth lottery ticket that the lucky player bought won a top prize of $100,000.

“I’m happy because I always wanted to start my own business but I didn’t have the funds to do it,” the winner told Virginia Lottery officials as he went to collect his grand prize.
