President Joe Biden called a Fox News reporter “stupid son of a bitch” on Monday at the end of an act at the White House.
Biden's insult It happened when reporter Peter Doocy asked him if he believed that inflation in the United States could represent a political cost for his party in the legislative elections that will be held in November.
"It's a great resource, more inflation," Biden said sarcastically, before adding: "What a stupid son of a bitch..."
It is not clear if the President realized that his microphone was still on. as the reporters left the East Room of the White House, where they had attended a Biden press conference on inflation.
The incident immediately became a topic of conversation on several television networks. On Fox News Doocy joked about the incident.
“No one has verified for now (what Biden has said) and has said that it is not true,” said the White House correspondent.
The journalist later said that Biden called him on the phone to clarify the matter.
“About an hour after what happened, he called me on my cell phone and said: 'It was nothing personal, friend.' We talked about it, and about moving on."
Doocy added that he explained to Biden that he always asks something different than the others” and that the president replied: “You have to do it.”
Doocy did not say whether the president apologized, saying he appreciated Biden calling him amid rising tensions with Russia over his dispute with Ukraine.
Doocy has had several tense exchanges with White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki because her questions reflect the conservative bias of Fox News and are sometimes premised on disinformation.
Biden had not shown similar disrespect to any journalist, although last week he said that the question another Fox News reporter had asked him was "stupid."
The outburst drew criticism from other White House correspondents, including CNN's Jeremy Diamond, who tweeted: "It wasn't cool when (former President Donald) Trump insulted the press, and it wasn't cool when Biden did either."
