Colombian authorities denounced on Monday the murder of Julian Eduardo Baltazar, a young community member of the Kweth Kina las Mercedes Reservation, in the municipality of Caldono, department of Cauca, southwestern Colombia.

The senator of the Republic Special Indigenous Circumscription “Mais”, Aida Quilcué, reported that around 9:00 p.m. (local time) the crime occurred while she reported that it is the brother of a missing person reported several months ago.

The judicial officials specified that local testimonies affirm that the 28-year-old young man “was outside his residence when armed individuals arrived at the scene. They then fired at the victim, killing him.”

National media indicated that the ancestral authorities coordinated the transfer of the victim to Legal Medicine to the neighboring municipality of Santander de Quilichao.

After the 169th murder in the course of this year denounced by the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz) of Colombia, Quilcué stressed that the situation that is happening in Cauca in terms of human rights is “very serious. ”.



In this sense, the senator emphasized that “immediate intervention by human rights defense organizations, the National Government and the National Prosecutor’s Office is necessary to investigate the multiple acts of violence in our territories.”

Previously, Indepaz denounced that last Sunday the president of the Community Action Board of the village of La Diana, municipality of Cajibío, in the department of Cauca, was assassinated by an armed group.
