The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSJUV) was ratified as the first political force in the country, winning the majority of the governorships, 19 out of 23, at the end of the electoral calendar after the celebration this Sunday of the elections in Barinas.

Almost all the governorates were decided last November and on Sunday, after repeated elections in Barinas, the ruling party controls 19 of the 23 states in which the country is divided. Among the governorates won by the PSUV, is the capital Caracas.

The president of the CNE, Pedro Calzadilla, also highlighted that, for the 29th occasion, the population went to the polls to express their will, in two days developed in complete normality and described as successful by international companions, political parties, and authorities of the country.

More than 8 million citizens exercised their right to vote, representing 42.26 percent of participation of the total summoned. “It is the democratic spirit of the Venezuelan people that has prevailed,” said the principal rector of the electoral body.

The CNE and the political organizations highlighted the deployment of public security forces and, at the same time, the peaceful sense of the population who went to the polls to exercise their right to vote.

The holding of the elections had the participation of opposition forces, which had remained on the sidelines until now from taking part in the elections called since 2015.
