The Portuguese health authorities confirmed this Tuesday 33,340 new Covid-19 infections, which sets the accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic at almost 1,700,000 positive cases.

This situation, aggravated by the presence of the Ómicron variant, was reported by the Directorate General of Health (DGS), which also indicated that deaths amounted to 19,161.
The previous figure represents a total of 28 deaths more than on Monday, while the total of diagnosed with Sars-Cov-2 amounts to 1,693,398, although the health entity has verified a slight decrease in the number of hospitalized, even in intensive care units.
The Government of Portugal kept the return to classes invariable, which began again this Monday, January 10, after the festive dates. As of this date, the Executive has established other mandatory measures.
The authorities established the “end of the isolation of classes after the detection of a positive case”; as well as conducting teacher and non-teacher tests in the first two weeks after returning to school.
Other measures outline that the digital certificate becomes mandatory for access to restaurants, tourist establishments and local accommodation, as well as attendance at cultural shows and gyms.
