The Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) of Mexico specified on Tuesday that former President Enrique Peña Nieto is being investigated for crimes of money laundering and illicit enrichment.

The Mexican body indicated that it has opened the investigation for three fundamental cases, among them “crimes of an electoral nature, property, money laundering, illicit enrichment and illegal international transfers.”
According to the FGR, the crimes of an electoral and patrimonial nature relate to the Spanish company OHL, one of the companies favored during the Administration of former President Peña Nieto.
“In this investigation, progress will allow prosecutions in the coming months,” said the FGR, adding that “there is also an investigation folder for illicit enrichment, in which the tax and property rulings are being released through the corresponding institutions. and of the experts specialized in the matter”.
For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) underlined this Tuesday to a question from an interlocutor in the morning conference that he does not believe that the Prosecutor’s Office has “a problem in reporting how many complaints exist against former presidents and what is the status who keep these complaints”.
AMLO also said that “it is no longer an issue that has to do with the Executive, with the president, I am not promoting these complaints. Exist; if there is evidence, the prosecution, which is autonomous, will act, the judges”.
