Man killed in shooting with police in MARYLAND


A man was fatally shot in an exchange of gunfire with a state trooper and a sheriff’s deputy on Maryland’s eastern shore, authorities said.

Somerset County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a Westover convenience store around noon Monday after a 911 caller reported a man pointed a gun at him and demanded money, then fled, the Sheriff’s Office said. Attorney General in a press release.

A short time later, an officer about 2 miles (3 kilometers) away in the Princess Anne area saw a man matching the 911 caller’s description and approached him, authorities said. The deputy and the man fired their weapons and the man fled into a field.

When responding officers, Maryland State Troopers and Princess Anne Police officers found the man, he fired again, authorities said. He was struck when a police officer and a sheriff’s deputy returned fire. A gun was found next to the man.

The man was taken to a hospital, where authorities said he later died.

The Independent Investigations Division of the Attorney General’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting. Officials generally release the names of those involved within 48 hours. A body camera was active at the time and the images are usually released within 14 days.
