China reiterates opposition to Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan | News

The Chinese government reiterated on Thursday that it will act forcefully to respond decisively to the planned trip to the breakaway province of Taiwan by the leader (speaker) of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

China warns US about Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Webin said that if the planned visit materializes, his country will take countermeasures against the United States.

The Chinese side has repeatedly expressed its serious position to firmly oppose Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, Wang said.

In that sense, he recalled that the US Congress, like the government of Joe Biden (from the same party as Pelosi), must strictly adhere to the US commitment regarding the Taiwan issue.

Wang said, “If President Pelosi visits Taiwan, it would seriously violate the one-China principle and the stipulations of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and damage China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The spokesman said that this will have a serious negative impact on the political foundation of China-US relations and send the wrong signal to pro-“Taiwan independence” separatist forces.

“If the US side insists on paying the visit, China will act forcefully to respond resolutely and take countermeasures. We mean it,” Wang concluded.

The defeated side in the civil war in 1949 took refuge in Taiwan, although it held the Chinese representation until 1973, including in the United Nations, when the international community returned to the People’s Republic, with its capital in Beijing, the only representation of the Chinese people, including that of the Taiwanese island.
