The Geophysical Institute of Ecuador (IGE) reported this Tuesday that residents of several Ecuadorian towns in the province of Chimborazo (center), are suffering from the fall of ash from the Sangay volcano, for which it urges preventive measures to be taken.

They file a complaint against the expdte. from Ecuador, Lenin Moreno

“Strong fall in Guamote, moderate in Colta and slight in the parish of Cebadas. So far, thanks to satellite images, the ash plume is seen heading towards the north-west and could cause ash fall in the provinces of Bolívar, Los Ríos, Guayas and Manabí”, reported the IGE.

The entity added that it is monitoring the activity of the Sangay volcano located in the Amazonian province of Morona Santiago, in southeastern Ecuador, and stressed that in the event of any eventuality, it will inform the population.

This colossus is one of the most active in the country and has been in constant eruptive activity since 1628 and its last eruptive process began in 2019.

Not counting the volcanoes located in the Galapagos Islands, seven of the most active volcanoes in Ecuador are Cayambe, Reventador, Guagua Pichincha, Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Sangay and Potrerillos-Chacana.

Ecuador is one of the 15 nations with the largest number of volcanoes on the entire planet with 98 and at least 27 of them are still active.
