Young man dies in a shooting

Detectives with the Mount Vernon Police District Major Crimes Bureau are investigating a homicide after a 19-year-old man was shot outside an apartment building in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Alexandria. On September 17 at 9:34 p.m., officers were called to the 8400 block of Graves Street after a resident heard a gunshot and observed a person lying on the sidewalk. When police arrived, they discovered Annandale resident Darlin Ariel Diaz Flores suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. Daiz Flores was taken to Fairfax Hospital with injuries deemed life-threatening after officers administered life-saving measures. At 10:22 pm, Flores was pronounced dead.

Detectives first believe Diaz Flores was outside a nearby apartment with a group of friends when a confrontation with a passerby ensued. The shooting was the result of this disagreement.

To ensure that the victim’s family receives adequate support, Victim Specialists have been appointed from the Victim Services Division of our Serious Crimes Bureau.
