Metrobar will open its doors this week in a new carriage bar and will allow customers to come aboard.
Located in the bustling development from Bryant Street In northeast DC, car 5058 won't be heading to a specific destination, but will begin serving beer, wine and spirits from local vendors this Wednesday.
“We've always wanted to celebrate what makes DC great, celebrate our culture, our history and also celebrate local vendors,” said Jesse Rauch, co-owner of Metrobar.
Car 5058's interior design pays homage to Metro with a retro twist and a bit of modern charm, as highlighted by its hexagonal tiles and reupholstered original train seats.
Decorated with a bar, people can go up and order cocktails from inside or outside the train.
If you're looking for a cocktail while on board, Rauch suggests the "Metro Fashioned," which is Metrobar's take on the classic Old Fashioned drink.
The food at the bar comes from food trucks and other food vendors that are brought to the place.
The Metrobar team has worked to navigate a number of issues, including the pandemic, and find funding to make it happen, but says it feels "really good" to show what they've been working on.
The car's opening day is Wednesday, July 12 at 4:00 p.m. and it will be open Wednesday through Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until closing, according to the Metrobar website.
Reservations are not accepted at this time and space in the car is on a first-come, first-served basis.
