The Russian-German woman, Anna Sorokin, who is now jailed for posing as a millionaire heiress in the United States and for scamming to so-called friends, to banks, hotels and New York socialites, sued the US federal immigration authorities whom he accused of denying him access to the covid-19 booster vaccine, as well as other detainees who are about to be deportedreported Reuters.
The lawsuit says that the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) violates their constitutional rights by ignoring their requests to receive the booster vaccine against covid-19.
Sorokin and the other three arrested are represented by attorneys from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), who filed the lawsuit in federal court in Washington last Tuesday against Tae Johnson, interim director of Ice, and Alejandro Mayorkas, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
31 years old, Sorokin was convicted in 2019 of scamming $275,000 by posing as a millionaire heiress named Anna Delvey.
Nowadays The woman faces a deportation process to Germany, because the federal agency assures that she stayed longer than estimated than what her visa allowed.
His case served for Netflix to make a series based on part of his scam, called "Inventing Anna". In February of last year, Sorokin was paroled and later detained by ICE.
In January, After the agents ignored the request to receive a booster shot, the woman tested positive for covid-19, presenting a high fever, cough, nausea, migraines and some other symptoms.
After leaving the quarantine, on January 29, he continued to feel the effects of the contagion such as fatigue, mental confusion, shortness of breath and cough.
According to the lawsuit, Sorokin suffers from a chronic kidney infection and other medical problems including anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. In addition, he said he fears getting infected with COVID-19 a second time, according to a statement from the ACLU.
"I joined this lawsuit because everyone who wants a booster shot to protect themselves should be able to get one," declared.
For its part, The ACLU said they're not looking to put fireworks in her name, but "we think that to the extent that her involvement brings more attention to the issue, it's to everyone's advantage, not just her."
According to ICE, thousands of people arrested received their doses against covid-19, but the entity has not adopted any policy regarding booster shots.
