Ally Kiyomura was looking forward to the arrival of her baby, but she never imagined that fate would be in for a surprise when she and her husband Jeffrey Kiyomura left their home in Gardena to drive to the UCI Medical Center because their contractions were about four minutes.

While driving to the hospital, he said that his wife told him to stop because “the baby was going to come out”. He steered his SUV onto the shoulder of the carpool lane at the transition from the 5 Freeway to the 91 Freeway. “I got out of the car and got out on the passenger side, and all of a sudden the head was out and the baby was already here,” he said.

Orange County Fire Authority officials said they received a call for unspecified medical help and found the Kiyomuras in their car on the shoulder of the road.

OCFA fire captain Jorge Robledo said officials then provided medical attention.

In footage posted online, paramedics and firefighters along with Orange and Anaheim County fire officials gently slide Ally Kiyomura and her newborn, who was covered in a green blanket with soccer balls, out of the seat. from the front passenger of the car, to a stretcher and to the back of an ambulance.

Ally Kiyomura and the baby were transported to Anaheim Regional Medical Center.

Robledo said she has delivered several births before, but freeway births are rare.

“The baby is happy, healthy, what appears to be a normal delivery,” Robledo said.

Ally Kiyomura was happy and grateful for a happy and healthy baby, she wrote.

“I feel like this is all a dream. I am happy that the baby is here and healthy together with my wife. I am very happy that everything went well without any complications, ”she mentioned to local media.
