(CNN Spanish) — The second round of groups of the World Cup in Qatar began with key matches for advancement to the next phase for Groups E and F, which seek to advance to the round of 16.
The first key meeting this Sunday is Japan vs. Costa Rica, with the Japanese team arriving with a historic victory against Germany (2-1) and the Ticos who will try to recover from a historic win against Spain (7-0). A win for Costa Rica against Japan will be key to reviving hopes of advancing in Qatar, and Japan will go looking for a win to stay in the lead and comfortably advance to the next phase.
The second date of Group E will be in charge of Spain and Germany, in which the Germans will seek to recover from a surprising defeat against Japan and stay alive in the World Cup. A loss to Spain could mean the end of the road for Germany in Qatar.
