Russia continues its offensive in Avdiivka
Russian forces continue their offensive against the city of Avdiivka, in eastern Ukraine, despite the high number of losses they are suffering, according to Ukrainian officials. Ukraine estimates that 810 Russian soldiers died on Wednesday and 29 tanks were disabled. Russia has focused on the Donetsk and Luhansk regions since it failed in its initial advance on the capital kyiv at the start of the war in February 2022.
For the past two weeks, Russia has concentrated on Avdiivka in Donetsk, a city known in peacetime for its large coke plant and is now seen as a stronghold of the Ukrainian resistance. "The enemy is trying to advance and then we repel it," Oleksandr Shtupun, spokesman for the southern Ukrainian force groups, said on national television.
