VIRGINIA 16-year-old charged with accidental manslaughter

A 62-year-old woman died Sunday from injuries sustained in an accident. Officers responded to a crash around 3 pm in the 8800 block of Georgetown Pike involving three cars. The driver of a 2020 Audi A5 was traveling west on Georgetown Pike. The driver of a 2005 Nissan Sentra and the driver of a 1991 Toyota MR5 were traveling east on Georgetown Pike. The driver of the Audi lost control of his car, crossed the double yellow line and collided head-on with the Nissan. The Audi then swerved into the path of the Toyota, causing the Toyota to rear-end the Audi.

The driver of the Audi was treated for injuries at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The driver of the Nissan, Karla Boggess, of Berryville, was taken to the hospital and succumbed to her injuries four days after the accident.

Detectives have charged a minor with the fatal crash. Detectives determined that the youthful driver of the 2020 Audi A5 was traveling at a speed of more than 80 mph in the 35 mph speed zone. Detectives determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Yesterday, detectives obtained and served a petition for involuntary manslaughter for the 16-year-old. The minor was taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center, where he was held.
