Una serie de golpes a un hombre afroamericano desató una cruda pelea en un puerto de Montgomery, Alabama. La trifulca trajo consigo peleas entre mujeres, hombres e incluso un golpe a la cabeza con una silla. Las autoridades locales identificó a tres hombres blancos como los detonadores del violento episodio ocurrido este sábado por la tarde.
El jefe de la Policía de Montgomery, Darryl Albert, identificó este martes a los acusados como Richard Roberts, de 48 años de edad; Allen Todd, de 23 años, y Zachery Shipman, de 25. Uno de los sospechosos está arrestado y se espera que los otros dos se entreguen en breve a las autoridades.
Videos grabados por el público muestran que Damien Pickett, el empleado golpeado, intentó el sábado pasado dirigir el movimiento de una embarcación privada de fondo plano en la que viajaban hombres blancos, a fin de abrir paso para el barco Harriett II Riverboat.
El enfrentamiento se produjo por motivos raciales, sin embargo, los investigadores no hallaron pruebas suficientes para acusar a los responsables de delitos de odio o de incitación a disturbios, según informaron las autoridades.
