Surviving war is hard enough, but surviving blindness is one of the challenges faced by blind people in Ukraine. As can be seen in the video that accompanies this news item, blind people are suffering doubly from the consequences of the conflict. Oleksandr Vinkovski, the protagonist of the video, is blind and the director of a kyiv company that employs people with visual disabilities. Vinkovski cannot see the extent of the damage caused by debris from one of the many drones fired by Russia over the Ukrainian capital. “A blind person cannot locate where the explosion has occurred. For them, each explosion is as if it occurred in his house, ”he recounts.

Larysa Baida, program director of the National Assembly of Disabled People of Ukraine, explained that many blind people experience panic during attacks. In response, the organization has been providing psychological assistance to help the visually impaired during the war.
