Victoria Virasingh to Congress from Virginia

His campaign is breaking down barriers, inspiring new voters to participate in the political process and working to unify the Latino voice in Congress.

As the only Democratic primary to take place in Virginia and in a reliably blue district — the color of the Democratic Party — this is certainly a race to watch.

Virasingh, the daughter of immigrants, was born and raised in Arlington. Her mother grew up in Ecuador and her father was born to Punjabi Sikh refugees in Thailand.

With 48 percent of residents in Virginia District 8 (VA-8) being minorities, her lived experience as a Latina-Asian American gives her unique insight into the daily struggles faced by many in her community.

With valuable professional experience in the government, nonprofit, and private sectors, Virasingh is running for Congress to address these challenges once and for all, and she is leading the way for more young women of color.

Victoria Virasingh is the first Latina and the first Asian-American to be on the ballot for this race. She is the second woman to be on the ballot for this race and is the youngest to run for this position.

She believes that the people of VA-8 deserve a leader who truly understands their struggles and prioritizes resolving them. Virasingh’s policy platform includes creating a modernized immigration system that makes it easier for people to become US citizens and raising the minimum wage to $18 an hour to give people who work minimum wage a chance to live. his American dreams.

Victoria also supports making public university tuition 100 percent tax deductible to help students access university without worrying about financial barriers.

As Latinos, we have a reputation for not voting, for not making our voices heard. This election is different: we need to vote. Hispanics are a force to be reckoned with, especially when we support each other.

Her campaign launched this message: Let’s all get out and vote for Victoria Virasingh for Congress so we can elect the first Latina to represent this district and shape a future that works for everyone! Bring your family, friends and neighbors too. Vote early or on Election Day, Tuesday, June 21.
