The brand new three-time world champion, the Dutchman Max Verstappen, achieved the 50th victory of his career by winning a strategic Formula 1 United States Grand Prix on Sunday the 22nd.
The Red Bull driver, who started on the third row, made his way to take control of the race and cross the finish line 2.225 seconds ahead of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). Lando Norris (McLaren) completed the podium.
This Sunday's victory was the third consecutive victory for the world champion at the Circuit of the Americas, which he also achieved on Saturday in the sprint.
“Starting from sixth position made things a little more difficult,” Verstappen said.
Adding 50 victories “is incredible and I am very proud to achieve it here. Now we continue fighting to get more.
Verstappen won his third world title in Qatar 15 days ago and this Sunday he signed his fifteenth victory of the season, equaling last season's record of wins.
His enormous advantage in the drivers' World Championship standings is now 228 points ahead of his teammate, the Mexican Sergio Pérez.
Hamilton was also happy with his time on American soil. He congratulated Verstappen and Red Bull on a flawless season.
"We were catching them towards the end and I was hopeful, but we needed more laps," Hamilton said.
Norris, in his 100th career in Formula 1, also finished satisfied with his podium in a race in which he surpassed Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), who started on pole to finish ahead of Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) and « Czech» Pérez (Red Bull).
George Russell, another who competed in his 100th race, was seventh (Mercedes), ahead of Pierre Gasly, from Alpine, and Lance Stroll, who started from pit lane with his Aston Martin.
Yuki Tsunoda (Alpha Tauri) finished tenth and got an extra point for the fastest lap.
