Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro announced on Thursday the creation of a Special Economic Zone of the Countryside. An initiative to direct public and private investments to food production in an area of ​​5,453,704 hectares, distributed among the states of Anzoátegui, Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Guárico, Monagas and Sucre.

The project will be dedicated to the production of corn, soybeans, sorghum, sunflower, peanuts, cashews, cotton and legumes, as well as bovine, goat and buffalo livestock. The president stressed that this modality will allow to attract capital from small, medium and large investors, both national and foreign.

Additionally, the new Special Economic Zone contemplates the accompaniment of the Bank of Venezuela, a publicly owned entity, to finance projects of peasant producers in the Anzoátegui State.



The Bolivarian government is also advancing in the formation of Peasant Productive Circuits, a proposal that stems from the debate between the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands and the producers organized in the National Peasant Movement; and which aims to transform the production model by training producers, eliminating intermediaries and reducing consumer prices.

To promote the progress of this model, President Nicolás Maduro proposed organizing a National Peasant Council, as a direct communication instance between the Government and producers, to collect and channel proposals, criticisms and complaints from the national agricultural sector.



Also this Thursday, the Venezuelan president reported that as part of the results of the management in terms of food production, Venezuela registered a 15 percent increase in sardine production during the first half of 2023, with a total of 28,938 tons. Meanwhile, the increase in the industrial processing of this item, in the same period, was 31 percent. Likewise, the capture and production of octopus grew 259 percent.

Finally, the Venezuelan President asserted that the export of food is one of the fundamental elements of the National Government Plan to advance in the process of recovery and economic diversification. In addition, he explained that, as part of the new model, the income that the nation obtains from this concept is reinvested in strengthening the producing companies.
