Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago have maintained diplomatic relations for 61 years, which were consolidated with the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution.
Both nations have commercial relations in hydrocarbon exploitation, thanks to the agreements signed by the Venezuelan head of state Nicolás Maduro with the Caribbean country for gas activities in joint fields.
Caracas and Port of Spain signed an agreement last September to promote joint gas production in the Dragon field, in the waters of the Venezuelan state of Sucre, next to the northwest coast of Trinidad.
Last October, the Trinidadian Government received a "full green light" from the United States (US) to develop the Dragon gas field with Venezuela. According to Minister Young, the license "will be valid for two years, until October 31, 2025, which is more than enough time."
