US doubles its order for Pfizer pills to 20 million doses

Given the increase in hospitalizations and COVID-19 infections in the United States, President Joe Biden decided to increase the doses of coronavirus pills ordered from Pfizer from 10 million to 20 million.

“This is still a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” Biden said in a television speech from the White House.

The president reported that there are still 35 million unvaccinated people in the United States, where, after the advance of the omicron variant, the number of infections has risen to 6,907,356 cases in the last 28 days, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Biden said that “schools must remain open,” since they “have what it takes,” adding that $ 130 million is available from the national budget to ensure the safety of children.

This Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States (CDC, for its acronym in English) they recommended advance the booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine from six to five months after the corresponding doses, plus “an additional primary dose for certain immunosuppressed children” between the ages of 5 and 11 years.
