Pentagon press secretary General Pat Ryder called a Wall Street Journal report on the apparent deal "inaccurate" during last briefing.

"Certainly, we know that China and Cuba have some kind of relationship, but when it comes to the specific activities described in the press reports, based on the information we have, that's not accurate," Ryder said.

"We are not aware of China and Cuba developing any type of spy station," he said.

The spokesman insisted on the subject: "Based on the information we have, I can tell you that it is not accurate, that we are not aware that China and Cuba are developing any type of spy station."

This Friday, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the United States of spreading slander regarding an alleged construction of a spy base in Cuba to intercept communications.

The spokesman recommended that the US authorities "reflect", "stop interfering in Cuban internal affairs under the pretext of democracy and human rights" and "immediately cancel the financial blockade" on Cuba.

For his part, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, described as mendacious and unfounded the publication of the US newspaper, which is only a pretext to justify Washington's embargo against the island.
