"The water emergency refers only to the measures for drinking water and consumption in the metropolitan area (Montevideo). It does not change anything for the agricultural aspect," stressed the head of the portfolio.
At a press conference, Mattos recalled that the agricultural emergency decree is valid until September 23, when the climatic situation will be evaluated to assess whether it is extended and how to continue assistance to producers.
At the same time, it will be considered whether or not the forage situation, watering holes and water availability extends.
Mattos also clarified that the water situation is not the same for the entire country, since there has been more recovery in the northern region.
"We are in a better situation than a few months ago, but there are still regions of the country where there is a structural issue of lack of water," he added.
Last Wednesday, the Government of Uruguay announced the end of the water emergency decreed on June 19, and assured that the rainfall restored the water reserves for the population.
