Uruguay touched on Monday the eight thousand daily cases of coronavirus to exceed the 520 thousand infections of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The Uruguayan National Emergency System (Sinae) indicated that 7,994 cases and five deaths due to the coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours.
According to the Health agency, the country has accumulated 520,822 infections and 6,248 deaths due to the coronavirus since March 13, 2020, when the health emergency was decreed when the first four infections by Covid-19 were detected.
According to the health authorities, 83,392 people are suffering from the disease and 75 of them are in intensive care centers.
On December 29, Uruguay confirmed the arrival of the omicron variant of the coronavirus after the increase in cases in recent weeks.
The Minister of Public Health, Daniel Salinas, explained at the time that they expected an increase in the number of daily cases at that time.
Regarding vaccination, the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) indicated that to date 2,685,898 people (75.81 percent of the population) completed their vaccination schedule.
