Uruguay begins vaccination against Covid-19 in children | News

The Uruguayan Ministry of Public Health reported this Wednesday the start of vaccination against Covid-19 in children between five and 11 years old, prioritizing, according to the entity, safety and inoculation speed.

The entity stressed that of the universe of 320,000 infants in the indicated age range, 110,000 have registered so far, of which it is estimated that 84,000 receive the dose for the first time this week.

Within the framework of the date chosen to begin anticovid inoculation in infants, a pediatric vaccination center was inaugurated in Uruguay at the Pereira Rossell Hospital Center of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE).

In this way, the institution responsible for the health portfolio in Uruguay said that eight pediatric vaccination centers have already been installed throughout the country to fulfill this task.

In general, more than 77 percent of the Uruguayan population has completed their vaccination schedule and a figure over 80 percent have received the first dose.

Likewise, given the increase in infections caused by the expansion of the Ómicron variant in Uruguay, registering about 10,000 cases in the last day, the booster dose has been applied to about 45 percent of the population.
