United States: They will demolish the Uvalde elementary school where 19 children and two teachers were murdered

The mayor of the Texas town of Uvalde, where 19 children and two teachers were murdered on May 24, announced that the primary school where the massacre took place will be demolisheda decision similar to the one that has already been taken in other similar incidents in educational centers.

“You can’t ask a child or a teacher to go back to that school. Never”, said the mayor, Don McLaughlin, during a meeting in which he has not clarified when the demolition would take place, according to CNN.

Robb Elementary School is not the first to suffer this fate after being the scene of a massacre. It has already happened in Newtown (Connecticut), where the Sandy Hook school was demolished after the murder of 20 children and six adults in 2021 and a new center was erected on the same spot.

The mayor of Uvalde appeared before the neighbors visibly angry, accusing the Texas Department of Public Safety and his boss, Steven McCraw, of not adequately informing you of the progress of the investigations and making confusing statements to avoid any self-criticism.

McCraw did, in fact, appear before the Texas Senate and blamed the delay in police action on the head of the security forces in the district where the school is located, Pedro ‘Pete’ Arredondo.

Authorities are trying to figure out if the high number of victims in the shooting could have been avoided, since the agents were supposedly aware that the shooter was locked in a room with a group of students and a wounded teacher and, even so, they were slow to start the assault.
