"The Russian army is setting up checkpoints at the entrances to Kherson. It is difficult to say how the situation will develop," Mayor Igor Kolikhayev said on his Facebook page.
The mayor stated that the citizens of Kherson will resist the Russian military presence in the vicinity and neighborhoods of the city, located on the shores of the Black Sea.
"I am in my office to coordinate municipal services so that we can wake up in a relatively peaceful city," said Igor Kolikhayev, asking citizens to remain "calm and cautious."
For its part, the State Service for Communications and Information Protection announced that the assault of Russian troops on Kherson has begun.

Defense Ministry spokesman General Igor Konashenkov said that since the start of the special military operation, Russian forces have destroyed 314 tanks or armored cars, 57 missile launchers, 121 artillery pieces and mortars, and 274 military vehicles.
