Two signatories of the peace agreement are assassinated in Colombia | News

The ex-combatant Edwin Sánchez Varón, peace signer, was assassinated this Saturday, April 2, in the center of the municipality of La Libertad, in the department of Guaviare, while another ex-rebel in the process of reincorporation, Carlos Siabato, was executed in Bogotá.

Sánchez, was shot six times by individuals who were traveling on motorcycles. On October 13, 2020, they had already attacked him in the village of Termales in the municipality of Retorno.

According to the official report, the incident occurred at 8:00 p.m. local time in the heart of the village, very close to the church. The victim received six bullet wounds.



The Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz), Sánchez Varón began his reincorporation process in the Territorial Space for Training and Reincorporation (ETCR) Jaime Pardo Leal in the department of Guaviare, in southern Colombia.

The National Association of Peasant Reserve Zones -ANZORC-, denounced in 2020 an attack against the peace signer Edwin Andrés Sánchez, who was attacked with a firearm on October 13, in the village of Termales de San José del Guaviare .

In the other crime, Carlos Siabato was identified as a founding member of the Association- Construction, Collective, Unity and Transformation (ASOCUNT).



According to Indepaz, Siabato was killed inside his home by a subject who broke into his home and shot him without saying a word.

The execution was reported in the town of Ciudad Bolívar, where he received medical care in a city hospital but attempts to prevent his death were frustrated.

With Carlos Humberto Siabato and Edwin Sánchez there would be 13 signatories of the agreement assassinated in 2022 and 312 since the signing of the peace agreement.
