Two dead and 28 injured, after shooting during a party in Baltimore
A shooting during a party in the city of Baltimore (Maryland, USA) left two people dead and 28 more injured, of which 3 are in a critical situation, reported the acting chief of the local Police, Richard Worley.
The shooting occurred during a Popular party who had gathered the residents of the Brooklyn neighborhood, in the south of Baltimore, on the street.
Around 00:35 local time this Sunday, the police officers went to the scene after receiving numerous phone calls alerting them to a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found "multiple victims" who had been shot, Worley said at a news conference.
An 18-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, while a 20-year-old man died shortly after at a local hospital, local police later explained in a statement.
The 28 injured have received medical attention at local hospitals and three of them are in critical condition.
Baltimore Police are still searching for those responsible for the shooting and have asked the public for cooperation.
In the press conference that took place at the scene, the mayor of Baltimore, the Democrat Brandon Scott, regretted what happened and promised that the Police would find the culprits.
Speaking directly to those responsible and visibly outraged, Scott stated: “We won't stop until we find them and we will find them. Until then, I hope that with every breath you take, you think of the lives you've taken."
Scott was elected mayor in 2020 on a promise to reduce gun violence in Baltimore and, in an op-ed in The Washington Post last January, argued that authorities need to do more to address gun violence in a more more comprehensive.
According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), a nonprofit project that tracks gun violence in the United States, so far in 2023 there have been 338 mass shootings.
GVA defines a mass shooting as one that ends with four victims, whether dead or wounded, not including the perpetrator of the attack if he died or was injured during the event.
