Said states “under the guidance of their Health Secretaries, chose to postpone the parades of the samba schools for the weekend of the Tiradentes holiday, April 21,” they indicated in an official statement.

Those responsible also reiterated that the decision was made in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil and the need to preserve lives and continue promoting vaccination throughout the national territory.

The Sao Paulo government had reported that one of the protocols for holding the parades at the Anhembi Sambadrome included the mandatory use of the mask and 70 percent public attendance.

Brazil reports more than 622,000 deaths from Covid-19 (358 deaths on the day) and Sao Paulo is the Brazilian state with the most registered deaths, until this Friday, with 156,310 deaths.
