Turbulence from Ian shakes hurricane hunter plane | Video

Engineer Nick Underwood posted video aboard the Kermit Hurricane Hunter plane as it passed through severe turbulence near the eye of Hurricane Ian.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) worker and his team boarded the plane to closely measure the strength of the meteor, which slammed into Florida with catastrophic force.

The storm’s wind speed puts it just shy of a Category 5 designation on the Saffir-Simpson scale, the most severe classification for storms with maximum sustained winds of at least 150 mph.

The region around the landfall area is home to miles of sandy beaches, dozens of resort hotels and numerous mobile home parks, a favorite with retirees and vacationers alike.
