The authorities of the United States (USA) maintain a tsunami warning for the Pacific this Sunday after an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 (revised) was registered in the western tip of Alaska.

The US National Tsunami Warning Center published the warning on its website after the tremor occurred at 00:48 local time this Sunday (06:48 GMT), with an epicenter about 106 kilometers from the city of Sand Point, in the Eastern Aleutian Islands, in the state of Alaska.

The depth of the telluric event was about 21 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey. (USGS, for its acronym in English).



The USGS first estimated the magnitude of the event to be 7.3, but later recalibrated to a magnitude of 7.2.

Likewise, the Tsunami Warning Center first issued a tsunami warning for the Pacific coasts, but withdrew it, although it maintained an advisory.

The US authorities have so far not reported whether the earthquake caused casualties or material damage in the area.
