In this 2023 there have been several train derailments in the United States (USA) and, in some cases, this occurred while they were transporting toxic chemical substances.
One of the most remembered was the one reported on February 3, when a freight train operated by the Norfolk Southern railway company derailed in East Palestine, in the state of Ohio.
Of the 150 carriages, at least 50 ran off the tracks and some were carrying vinyl chloride, a colorless gas that is highly flammable and considered a potent carcinogen. US organizations warned about the environmental and health impact of residents near the area.
