The Twitter account of the Ministry of Health confirmed that "17 were killed and 29 injured in a traffic accident on the Kharga - Assiut road."

The health portfolio also reported that medical services are provided to those injured in the incident, and that 26 ambulances were sent to the scene to help the victims.

According to authorities from the province of Nuevo Valle, the bus was carrying 45 people and collided on Wednesday night against the truck that was going to park on the al-Kharga-Assiut highway, in the al-Nabq region.

The governor of the province of Nuevo Valle, Mohamed el-Zamlout, told local media that the circulation of cargo trucks on the Al-Kharga-Assiut highway would be stopped from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (local time) to prevent the occurrence of fatal accidents.

The official took advantage of the occasion to spread a road campaign, aimed at discovering the drivers of offending vehicles who drive under the influence of drugs.

In this sense, in the country there have been recurrent traffic accidents due to infractions, speed increases and poor condition of the roads, for which reason the loss of human life has been lamented.
