At least seven people died on Friday due to a road accident in the Biobío region, central-southern Chile, when at a train crossing near the commune of San Pedro de la Paz, a bus collided with a Biotren formation. also leaving 14 injured.

According to the Carabineros major, Juan Francisco Carrasco, the accident occurred about 500 kilometers south of the city of Santiago, when the bus violated the stop signal due to the proximity of the train and caused it to hit it, leaving behind seven people died of the 14 who occupied the vehicle.

According to the Bíobio site, four of the deceased were teachers, while a statement was issued from the local municipality in which they regretted the tragedy and announced three days of mourning.

The state company EFE Sur, which operates the trains, elaborated in a statement that the barriers placed at the Boca Sur crossing worked without technical defects and were deployed when the train crossed.

"EFE Sur has reiterated and permanently denounced the reckless and irresponsible behavior of drivers who daily do not respect the barriers that confine the railway when passenger or freight trains arrive," the company stated.



The company regretted the accident and stated that no passengers who boarded the train suffered serious injuries. Therefore, he extended his condolences to the families of those who died and hopes for a speedy recovery of the injured.
