Mexico.- The Quesqui field of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is in its final stage, with the recent addition of three production wells this month, adding a total of 28 wells in operation.

In addition, six more wells are expected to be added before the end of the year, thus completing the development of the field, as announced by Ángel Cid Munguía, the next general director of Pemex Exploration and Production (PEP).

Cid Munguía highlighted the strategy of accelerating production in the Quesqui field and commented on the progress: "With the new three wells that came into production in July, only six more would be pending. We hope that they will be completed this year and with this we would be fully accelerating the production of this field."

Octavio Romero Oropeza, general director of the company, during a visit to the production area, pointed out that they drilled three wells simultaneously as part of the early production activities, highlighting the speed of the work carried out.

Víctor Gerardo Vallejo Arrieta, deputy director of Strategic Exploitation Projects of the parastatal, confirmed that they are in the "final stage" of Quesqui, and that this deposit currently provides 190,000 barrels per day. With the production of the new wells, the contribution is expected to increase to 205 thousand barrels per day, which represents more than 10% of the total production, in addition to 700 million cubic feet per day of gas.

According to data from the oil company, at the end of the first quarter of the year, the company's new fields contributed a total of 543 thousand barrels per day, representing 29% of total production and helping to offset the decline of mature fields.

The Quesqui field has been identified as the third most important field for the national production of liquid hydrocarbons, only surpassed by Ixachi and Zama, and the second with the greatest potential in natural gas, according to the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH).

Romero Oropeza highlighted the importance of completing the work during the remaining time of the administration: "We are working very hard because there is little time left in this administration and we must finish very well."

For the year 2023, the goal of the state productive company is to drill practically one well per day, with a total of 97 exploratory wells and 256 producers, seeking to incorporate reserves of up to 904 million barrels and reach an average production of one million 950 thousand barrels per day at the end of the year.
