Three Israeli Soldiers Killed in Gunfight on Egypt Border | News
Three Israeli soldiers and an Egyptian officer died this Saturday in a shootout on the border between the two countries, between the Sagi and Harif mountains, in the Negev desert, in an incident that has not been clarified.

Both countries have given different versions of how the shooting occurred. Egypt maintains that the deaths of these four people occurred during "the pursuit" of drug smugglers that led to an "exchange of fire."
The Egyptian Armed Forces have indicated in a statement that "an Egyptian security officer" on the border between Egypt and Israel crossed the divide during the pursuit of smugglers, and "the exchange of fire caused the death of three Israeli soldiers, wounding two others, and the death of the Egyptian agent".
While the Israeli army identified the deceased Egyptian policeman as responsible for the deaths of its soldiers.
The events, he explained in a statement, would have occurred in two episodes: one in which the assailant shot dead the two Israeli soldiers who were guarding a checkpoint and a subsequent shooting in which the assailant died along with another Israeli soldier .
