According to the director of the Faculty’s Seismology Laboratory, Rafael Fugarazzo, this tremor, which originated at a depth of 10 kilometers, had an epicenter in the lower Paraguayan Chaco, near the border with Argentina, 85 kilometers from Asunción, the capital of the country.

The Volcano Discovery organization indicated that earth tremors were registered, possibly due to seismic activity at 20:56 (00:56 GMT Thursday) near Asunción. The special seismic alert system application for Chile also detected this seismic activity in the Paraguayan area.

In social networks, citizens reported the perception of a slight tremor in various parts of the country. Among the affected towns were Lambaré, Villa Elisa, San Antonio, Limpio, Fernando de la Mora, Ñemby and other cities.

Users highlighted that the tremor was felt more intensely in buildings. Window glass was broken in many places.

Fugarazzo commented that the tremors that are usually perceived in the country are shocks that occur in Argentina. “We have to see how big the earthquake was in Argentina and do a macroseismic to see what really moved, the table, the glass, a lot of field studies to know how much it felt. If it happened in Paraguay it was an intraplate, there are many kinds of earthquakes”, he told local media.

In San José Jáchal, Argentina, an earthquake was recorded that had a magnitude of 4.3 and a depth of 126 kilometers, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). A 5.2 tremor was also reported in Atacama during the night of this Wednesday.
