After the scandal generated by the use of your ChatGPT product by students to deceive their teachers with texts created with artificial intelligence, the company Open AI released today a tool to detect this type of writing.

Open AI announced that it was making available to Internet users a AI text classifier that could help you determine if the text you are reading has been written by the AI or by a human.

“We have trained a classifier to distinguish between text written by a human and text written by AI from various providers”, explained the company in the announcement of the launch of its new tool.

The company considered a pioneer in the generation of content with AI, highlighted that it made this classifier available to the public for Gather opinions about the usefulness of tools.

Open AI recognizes that your classifier is not entirely reliablebecause for now it has low levels of identification of texts made by machines, but it stands out that it continues to work to improve it.

“Our classifier is not totally reliable. In our assessments of a “challenge set” of English texts, our classifier correctly identifies 26% of texts written by AI (true positives) as “probably AI-written”, while incorrectly labeling human-written text as AI-written 9% of the time (false positives),” Open AI reported.

The reliability of the classifier, emphasizes the technological firm, tends to improve as the length of the input text increases. Compared to his previous classifier, he says, this new classifier is much more reliable with texts from newer AI systems.

Tools for teachers

The scandal arose from the use of ChatGPT in schoolswhere students used this software to create essays or writings that their teachers requested and some of them noticed the trap.

Faced with this situation, Open AI said that developed a preliminary resource on the use of ChatGPT for educatorswhich describes some of the uses and the associated limitations and considerations.

“We recognize that the identification of written texts with AI has been an important topic of debate among educatorsand that it is equally important to recognize the limits and implications of AI-generated text classifiers in the classroom,” the company wrote in a statement.

"We are working with educators from the United States to find out what they see in their classrooms and discuss the capabilities and limitations of ChatGPT, and we will continue to expand our reach as we learn,” he added.

Open AI also says that in the future it expects its classifier and associated classification tools to have a impact on journalists, disinformation researchers and other groups.
