According to a publication on its Twitter social network account, Indepaz specified that the victim was identified as José Avelino Pérez Ortiz, who was the leader of the Joel Sierra Human Rights Foundation, and became the eighth leader assassinated in what It’s from 2022.

“This leader was assassinated on the road that leads to the village of Clarinitero, in the rural area of ​​the Arauca municipality,” the institute said in a statement.

In addition, he added that the Joel Sierra Human Rights Foundation had warned that Pérez Ortiz experienced judicial persecution “which had caused him to be confined in jail for at least five months.”

This event occurs after the explosion of a car bomb was recorded on Wednesday at the headquarters of social organizations of Centro Oriente in the municipality of Saravena, Arauca, which left at least one dead and five injured.

After this action, several organizations rejected the attack and demanded that the Colombian authorities “act immediately to find those responsible for said attack and take the maximum protection and prevention measures so that these events do not occur again.”
