The authorities of the Mexican state of Guerrero reported on Saturday the disappearance of journalist Jorge Luis Chew Cervantes in the municipality of Taxco de Alarcón, after covering an alleged confrontation between police and armed men.

Local media and people close to the journalist warned that they lost contact with Jorge Luis Chew, when he was heading to the point known as El Campamento, on the Taxco-Tetipac highway.
After the official complaint of disappearance, the local government began locating work on Saturday and search files were activated by the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) and the State Search Commission for Persons.
The FGE reported that the Specialized Prosecutor for Forced Disappearances and Search for Disappeared Persons is leading the operations to find the journalist.
The Secretary of National Defense, the Secretary of the Navy, the Secretary of State Public Security and the Municipal Police of areas surrounding the municipalities of Pilcaya and Taxco participate in the search operation.
The international organization Article 19 demanded that the state prosecutor's office and that of the country initiate investigations into the incident, taking into account the journalistic activity of Jorge Luis Chew.
The association that defends freedom of expression called on the Government of Guerrero and the Ministry of the Interior to coordinate and apply the Approved Protocol for the Search for Disappeared Persons to guarantee the location of the communicator alive.
