The president of the Haitian Senate, Joseph Lambert, denounced this Monday that three of his bodyguards were kidnapped by an armed gang as a result of the wave of violence unleashed in the country.

Lambert said that the actors of the crime demanded the delivery of 5 million dollars as a requirement to release the Senate security agents.

Likewise, the president of the Senate stressed that his speech scheduled for this January 10 in the Upper House is maintained, where he will defend that the mandate of the senators in charge for six years from the beginning of 2017, continues until 2023.

It should be noted that the country's political sectors do not approve of this approach since they affirm that the political functions of parliamentarians expire this Monday, January 10, according to a constitutional interpretation, which aggravates the institutional crisis of the Haitian nation.

On the other hand, the events of violence unleashed in Haiti add to the political situation that worsened after the assassination of then-president Jovenel Moïse, on July 7, 2021.
