They carry out conservation in the Desierto de los Leones

The Ministry of the Environment (Sedema) carried out conservation works and management actions in the Desierto de los Leones National Park Protected Natural Area.

In collaboration with the agricultural communities of Santa Rosa Xochiac and San Mateo Tlaltenango, the soil was improved and vegetation recovered, and preventive measures were carried out to prevent the spread of forest fires.

Dams of andirons and branches were created, cordons were placed on contour lines to containn of soil, areas not intended for vehicle parking were delimited and bicycle routes with a high degree of erosion were closed.

"In the case of the Desierto de los Leones, it has been detected that natural phenomena such as rain and wind, as well as some activities “Uncontrolled human activities such as mountain biking and hiking cause soil degradation,” the agency indicated.

In the Desierto de los Leones, species that were not easily seen before have been detected, such as the lynx. Americanthe gray fox and the coyote.
