They call for extreme precautions against Cyclone Sixteen-E and storm "Lidia"
Due to the development of the potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen-Elocated off the coast of Guerrero, and the tropical storm Lydiatolocated southwest of the Baja California Peninsula, Heavy to torrential rains, strong winds and high waves are expectedso it is essential that the population and authorities of the three levels of government take extreme precautionsmainly for the protection of people's lives.
This was reported by the National Water Commission (Conagua), the Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR), the National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) and the National Meteorological Service (SMN), in a press video conference.
The general coordinator of the SMN, Alejandra Margarita Méndez Girón, explained that at 09:00 hours, central Mexico time, the potential tropical cyclone Sixteen-E was located 240 kilometers south-southeast of Acapulco and 305 km south of Zihuatanejo, both municipalities of Guerrero, with sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, gusts of 75 km/h and slow movement towards the northwest, at 7 km/h, near the coast of Guerrero.
He pointed out that the cloud bands of the potential tropical cyclone cause cloudiness and rain in Guerrero and Michoacán, as well as cloudiness in the center of the country.
According to the forecasts, he explained, it is expected that during the afternoon-night of today, the potential cyclone will intensify into tropical storm Max and that its center will be located approximately 200 km from the coast of Guerrero, between Acapulco and Zihuatanejo.
Likewise, it will interact with the movement of cold front 4, located in Veracruz. Both systems, he explained, They will cause torrential rains in Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla, Tabasco and Veracruz; intense occasional rains in Campeche, Colima and Michoacán, as well as occasional heavy rains in the center of the country.
Regarding the cold air mass associated with front 4, he stated that it causes a northerly event with wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h and waves of 2 to 4 meters high on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz and the Gulf of Tehuantepec.
In due course, Tropical Storm Max will cause wind gusts of 60 to 80 km/h and waves of 2 to 4 meters high on the coasts of Guerrero and Michoacán.
