They 'bat' controversy against textbooks; Coahuila challenge, pending

Unanimously, the First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) dismissed the constitutional controversy that prevented the distribution of free textbooks in the state of Chihuahua, by declaring the appeal of the Legal Department of the Presidency (CJP).

The CJP's appeal challenged the decision of Minister Luis María Aguilar Morales, who had admitted the controversy to processing and granted the suspension that prevented the distribution of the teaching materials.

The project prepared by Minister Arturo Zaldívar asked the Court to declare the appeal founded, which was supported by Margarita Ríos Farjat, Juan Luis González Alcántara Carrancá, Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena and Jorge Mario Pardo Rebolledo, members of the body.

In yesterday's session there was no debate on the topic.

Minister Luis María Aguilar Morales admitted to processing, last August, the controversy of the government of Chihuahua, in which it was argued that the printing and distribution of textbooks was carried out without following the guidelines of the educational procedure.

It was also suggested that the opinion of state governments and representatives of society, as well as specialists in education, health and culture, among others, should be taken.

The Court has yet to resolve a similar controversy, presented by the government of Coahuila, a matter in which an appeal filed by the CJP against a suspension of distribution is also being analyzed.

PARENTS CELEBRATE DECISION

After the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN)did not agree with the PAN Governor of Chihuahua about the controversy over the textbooks, the state government announced that it will abide by the ruling and that its distribution will immediately begin in all the schools of the entity.

Since September, when President María Eugenia Campos decided not to deliver the books and file a constitutional controversy, preschool, primary and secondary school children have not started the school year due to the absence of their textbooks.

For this reason, teachers and parents celebrated that students will finally be able to attend classes normally with their study material.
