The Central Electoral Board (JCE) of the Dominican Republic announced this Wednesday that the pre-campaign will begin on July 2 with a view to the 2024 general elections in that Caribbean nation.

The authority issued a provision through which it formalized the voting process to renew the legislative, municipal and presidential authorities.

According to the schedule conceived by the JCE, on October 1 the primary elections of those political organizations that chose this method to choose their candidacies will be held.



Also on October 29, the conventions and assemblies of the various political organizations will be held.

The municipal elections will be held on February 18, 2024, while the presidential and legislative elections will take place on May 19 of that year. In the event that a second presidential round is required, this would occur on June 30 of the following year.

In its provision, the JCE also established limits for the expenses of the candidacy and limited individual contributions made by individuals for these purposes.

For presidential and congressional candidates and pre-candidates, the spending limit will be 70 Dominican pesos (1.26 dollars) for each voter registered at the national level, while candidates for senatorships will be able to count on 60 pesos (1.08 dollars) for each voter. registered at the provincial level. Candidates for councils may have this last amount for each voter registered at the province or constituency level.

At the municipal level, those who aspire to mayoralties will have a spending cap of 50 pesos (0.9 dollars) for each registered voter, while those aspiring to mayors may have up to 25 pesos (0.45 dollars) for each registered. In the case of those candidates to direct municipal districts, their spending limit will be 100 pesos (1.81 dollars) for each registered in the register at the municipal district level.
